Meadow Row Tea Rooms, Buckingham

Date visited: Thursday 21st September 2023

The Meadow Row Tea Rooms in Buckingham is also known as ‘Blackhams China Shop and Tea Rooms’, however the majority of space is devoted to the tearooms. It is located in the Meadow Walk shopping centre, just off Buckingham High Street and is open Mondays to Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm.

There are over a dozen tables inside for those wishing to take tea, and half a dozen outside too. The menu for food and beverages extends to just two sides of paper, though there are also specials displayed on a blackboard. Meals are mainly cooked breakfasts and hot snack lunches. However there was a much more extensive range of sweet items, with fourteen baked items and scones on display, as well as two cakes – a sponge and a teacake. The selection of teas available was just ‘tea’ or ‘herbal tea’, with the choices for coffees and soft drinks being more extensive.

Ham, egg and chips, a piece of raspberry shortbread, and a pot of tea.

Ham, egg and chips, a piece of raspberry shortbread, and a pot of tea came to £12.05. The teapot was slightly small but just about sufficient. The raspberry shortbread had a sprinkle of raspberries on top as well as a mildly raspberry flavoured seam at its centre, and was definitely the highlight of the meal.

When I visited on a Thursday lunchtime, the tearooms were doing a fairly brisk trade, with about half the tables occupied as well as a steady flow of takeaway orders. Service was friendly and prompt.
