To call Nell Gwynn’s in Windsor a tea ‘room’ is somewhat of a misnomer. This is a tiny establishment with no room indoors for those taking tea. Seating is limited to tables outside in Church Street. The building dates from 1670, despite the inscription reading 1640, and is listed Grade II* by Historic England.
Despite it’s small size, Nell Gwynn’s menu is quite extensive, offering paninis, sandwiches, muffins, ice cream, hot and cold drinks, wine, beer, cider and cocktails. A selection of six cakes were on display at the counter.
A slice of coffee and walnut cake, and a pot of green tea came to £6.95. The cake was a fine, but slightly dry, example of a coffee and walnut cake, though good for the price in a tourist hot-spot.
