As one heads down towards Polperro harbour from the car park or bus stop, The Plantation Tea Room is one of many establishments offering refreshments in this busy tourist destination. For those wishing to take tea, there are seven tables in a single room indoors and a dozen or so tables outside.
The menu offers breakfasts until midday, sandwiches, salads or hot lunches depending on the season, and afternoon teas. Unusually, there’s no cake counter, but a small blackboard listed four cakes. For two of these there was the option of having them served hot with clotted cream. The beverages menu offered a brief selection of teas, though I believe a wider selection may be available on request, as well as coffees and soft drinks.
A tuna and red onion mayo salad, a slice of hot chocolate fudge cake with clotted cream, and a pot of tea came to £13.55. The salad was fresh, large and filling, with plenty of tuna. The cream on the cake, having been heated in a microwave, was mostly nolonger on the cake and almost not on the plate either, but this was a minor concern.
Overall, The Plantation Tea Room provided good value for money and of much better quality than I’d expected for the price when compared with other tearooms in Cornwall.
