The Teapot Tea Shop is situated on the High Street in the Berkshire village of Cookham, just a few minutes walk from the Thames. This small tearoom is easily missed by those that aren’t local, as it has very little internet presence. It is well worth a visit and at the time of visiting was open Mondays to Saturdays from 10am to 5pm.
Inside, there are just five tables for those taking tea, but there are another nine tables in the tea garden behind. The menu offers breakfasts, light snacks and afternoon teas, as well as hot and cold beverages, including a wide range of Teapigs teas. At the counter, six cakes were on display, each looking quite luxurious and filling.
A tuna sandwich, a slice of strawberry and chocolate chip cake, and a pot of Teapigs jasmine pearls tea came to £17.10. The sandwich was well filled with tuna and came with salad and a small pot of salad dressing. The chocolate chip and strawberry cake would have benefited from being served on a larger plate, but that is a minor quibble. The cake itself was soft and moist without being heavy, and had strawberries not just as decoration on its top, but also in the filling between the layers of the cake. There wasn’t much evidence of chocolate chips, just of unadulterated chocolate, and I’ve absolutely no objection to that.
