Pauline’s Creamery is in the centre of Newquay. On its ground floor it offers a takeaway service of ice creams – as one would expect for a creamery – and and extensive range of both sweet and savoury bakes. Those wishing to take tea must make their way to the tearoom on the first floor, with over a dozen tables and served from a kitchen over the adjoining bakery.
The tearoom has a comprehensive menu of breakfasts and lunches, as well as offering afternoon teas. There is no cake counter in the tearoom and the selection of cakes on the menu is far fewer than on offer to take away on the ground floor. However at a choice of eleven different cakes this is still quite a wide selection. The beverages menu has a limited selection of teas, with a wider range of coffees offered, as well as soft drinks.
A bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, a huge slice of coffee and walnut cake, and a pot of green tea came to a very reasonable £10.75. The sandwich, whilst filling, was nothing remarkable. The cake more than made up for that, though with more of a toffee flavour than coffee, and all the better for coming with clotted cream which, as it was a mistake in the preparation of my order, came without the additional small charge on the menu. Additional water was offered for the tea, though as it was a relatively weak green tea I chose not to take that offer despite the teapot being relatively small. Service was friendly, despite the waiting staff being very busy on a warm spring afternoon.
