Diversitea in the Corn Hall in Cirencester only just manages to gain an entry on this site as it describes itself as a ‘café’ but redeems itself, with some hubris, by claiming on its website to be ‘the ultimate tea experience’. Diversitea has over ten tables for those taking tea, and when I visited on a Monday afternoon was busy with almost all tables occupied.
Tucked away at the rear of the Corn Hall – which operates as a daily indoor market place – Diversitea definitely has a cafe ambience, with a ‘mug of builders tea’ taking pride of place on their drinks menu. However, there is also a wide range of teas listed on the menu (though in much smaller print than the builders tea) and on display behind the counter, including loose leaf teas. Coffee, soft drinks and a small selection of alcoholic beverages are also offered. The food menu includes breakfasts, sandwiches, light snacks and salads, as well as afternoon tea and cakes. When I visited there were eleven cakes and bakes on display, of which at least eight were gluten free.
I chose a slice of chocolate and hazelnut cake, and a pot of jasmine blossom green tea, for £6.25. This was the first time I’d experienced a chocolate and hazelnut cake and found the combination of flavours a little odd, and the cake’s texture was rather dry. However that may have been because it was the last slice of the cake on open display on the counter without a cover.
