Mary’s Tea Room, Weymouth

Date visited: Friday 16th October 2020

Mary’s Tea Room was one of two tea rooms on Weymouth seafront, both describing themselves additionally as bistros and licensed for the sale of alcohol. Mary’s was the smaller of the two and had one inside room for those taking tea as well as tables outside. However at the time of my visit its indoor capacity had been greatly reduced owing to social distancing requirements.

A BLT sandwich, a slice of very creamy chocolate cake, and a pot of tea for £13.10.

The menu at Mary’s Tea Room offered a range of hot and cold meals, including an extensive range of options for breakfast. The beverage menu was considerably smaller, with neither coffee nor tea elaborated on. Several cakes were displayed at the counter.

A bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, served with chips and leaves, a slice chocolate cake, and a pot of tea came to £13.10. The chocolate cake benefited from sandwiching two layers of chocolate cream as well as a chocolate coating on top and sides. The teapot was unfortunately one of those that doesn’t pour well when full, depositing a small puddle of tea on the table, but this didn’t detract much from the meal.

Mary’s Tea Room closed permanently after the 2021 summer season.
