The Georgian Tearoom in Stroud has an unpromising location, right beside the railway bridge over Rowcroft. Opening in April 2018, it aims to be an authentic Georgian experience, with the staff – a ‘housekeeper’ (actually the proprietor) and ‘butler’ – dressed in period costume, recipes from the period and decor to match. There are two rooms for those taking tea, plus two tables outside, though with passing traffic heading uphill, taking tea outside would be a somewhat noisy experience and not with the freshest air.
The menu is limited, with full English breakfast, a small selection of sandwiches and even smaller selection of cakes. On the occasion of my visit the only sweet options were lemon sponge, apple pie, or cheesecake; though as I was their only customer on a midweek lunchtime perhaps that small range shouldn’t be a surprise. Roast dinner is offered on Sundays and there is a separate children’s menu. In addition to a small selection of teas and coffee, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are also offered.
A ham salad sandwich, a slice of apple pie with cream, and a pot of lemon green tea came to £10.78.

We have over 8 breakfasts and do customised breakfasts too. We have a significant luncheon menu mimicking Georgian era style ‘Tea’. With all due respect, Georgian ‘Teatimes’ are meals spread throughout the day and comprised savoury and sweet combinations It has made us realise that we need to put put… Read more »
