Ippuku Tea House serves Japanese food. There is one room for those taking tea plus a small terrace outside at the rear. It has a very extensive range of Japanese teas and an equally extensive menu of Japanese food with some modification for European habits. The tea house also serves cakes, that aren’t Japanese, for those wanting a more conventional tea room experience.
As a sign of the quality of their offering, there were several Japanese customers at the time I visited. The food was indeed excellent. A smoked salmon sushi ‘sandwich’ (salmon wrapped in rice wrapped in nori) with salad, a bowl of miso soup, and a pot of gyokuro (Jade Dew) green tea came to £14.50. Delicious! To ensure a perfect brew, the teapot was brought to the table only after it had brewed and with the tea leaves removed from the pot.
