The Earl Grey Tea Rooms in the Shambles, York, has several ground floor tea rooms and a tea garden for those taking tea, behind a gift shop and the front of the building. The food menu is quite extensive, with sections for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea, but the range of teas on the drinks menu is comparatively brief though better than at some tea rooms. A very well filled tuna and cucumber sandwich, with salad, a substantial slice of coffee and walnut cake with cream, and ‘delicate’ Ceylon orange pekoe tea came to £15.30. The large portions set the tone for further tea rooms visited in Yorkshire, where there was generally no risk of leaving a tearoom still feeling hungry!
