Pettigrew Tea Rooms, Cardiff

Date visited: Monday 25th February 2019

Pettigrew Tea Rooms occupies the West Lodge at the entrance to Bute Park on Castle Street in Cardiff. It has both ground floor and first floor rooms for those taking tea, as well as a few outside tables. As it was very busy on my visit, the only choices available were a long wait for an indoor table or a seat outside. Despite it being elsewhere in Wales the warmest February day on record, the temperature was distinctly chilly.

A “Farmer’s Ploughmans” and jasmine pearl tea for £13.80 at Pettigrew Tea Rooms.

The Pettigrew Tea Rooms offer an extensive menu, including separate breakfast and afternoon tea menus. A “Farmer’s Ploughmans”, with Welsh butter, ham, coleslaw, salad and a selection of cheeses, and jasmine pearl tea came to £13.80. The meal was filling but slightly let down by the teapot which had a cracked spout.
