The Thomas Oken Tea Rooms in Warwick, near to the entrance to Warwick Castle, are in a building built over five centuries ago by the person after whom the tea rooms are named. There is a very extensive range of leaf teas on offer, with a tea menu running to five pages, and a good range of hot snacks, dainty sandwiches, cakes and, of course, cream teas. In addition to tea they also serve coffee, cold and alcoholic beverages. For those taking tea there are rooms on the ground and first floors, as well as seating outside on fine days.
I ordered a beef sandwich, which comes with a small pot of horseradish sauce, crisps and some salad, and a fruit scone cream tea with a pot of jasmine green tea. Although not ordered as a full afternoon tea, it was served on a traditional tiered stand, and came to a very reasonable £13.
