Buckfastleigh is probably best know for the nearby Buckfast Abbey. It’s also the northern terminus of the South Devon Railway, though separated from its station by the small town’s bypass road.
The Singing Kettle in Buckfastleigh is just a short walk from the railway station, and provides a pleasant way to pass the time between trains on the preserved railway. Alas it seems not many choose to take the short walk from the railway station to the town and so it mainly serves local customers. Tea can be taken in one of two rooms, each with its own front door to the road, suggesting the tea rooms were once two shops. The menu is a little limited but sufficient. Unusually, this tea room doesn’t have its cakes on display to customers. A ham baguette and a pot of Yorkshire tea came to £7.40.
