Despite its relatively unassuming appearance, The Old Tea House in Dorchester is rather more than the average tearoom. Not only does it offer teas, cakes and light lunches, it also offers rather less light Sunday lunches, has a licensed bar and is open in the evening, and upstairs has accommodation for a small number of guests.
In many ways The Old Tea House is more like a small cosy inn with a very chatty landlady. If you don’t want to talk, this isn’t the place for you!
A pot of tea and a piece of Dorset apple cake cost £4.70. There are two ground floor rooms for those taking tea. On the day I visited, the front room was already decorated for Hallowe’en, two weeks before the day.
